Sacral Triangle and the dimples of Venus.
Because of the shapes and placement of the bones and ligaments of the lower back (primarily the pelvis and sacrum) two phenomenon often occur. The most common is an upside down triangular depression just superior to the gluteal cleft (above the butt crack). The second more rare phenomenon are the Dimples of Venus which form because of the influence of a short ligament stretching between the posterior iliac spine and the skin. They are directly superficial to the two sacroiliac joints, the sites where the sacrum attaches to the ilium of the pelvis.
